Press Release
The Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital (CPDMH) Foundation is pleased to announce that local realtor, John Southwell, has once again made a $1000 donation to the Hospital. The funds will be
directed towards the purchase of needed medical equipment for CPDMH's laboratory.
"I am pleased to support the Carleton Place Hospital since it has provided excellent care to many members of my family over the years", stated Mr. Southwell. "The Hospital has always been very important to me
and each year I donate of portion of my real estate commissions to the Hospital."
"In the coming year the hospital, with some assistance from the Foundation, will be investing over $100,000 to replace aging laboratory equipment including a hematology mixer, platelet mixer and biochemistry
analyzer," stated Toni Surko, AED of Patient Services. "Each item is vital to the day to day operations of the lab and are critical elements in assisting physicians with patient diagnosis and treatment."
Mr. Southwell has been a long time supporter of the Hospital and has continuously donated to the Hospital since 1997. In 2002, he donated to the Brick-by- Brick campaign which provided funds to the Hospital for
a new roof, windows and elevator. In 2004, Mr. Southwell also gave to the Help Improve Tomorrow Today! campaign, which has raised nearly $1.7 million for new medial equipment, including an x-ray machine,
for the Hospital.
"The ability of the Foundation to help the hospital is dependent on the ongoing support of the members of our community", stated Sylvie Powell, President of the CPDMH Foundation. "On behalf of the hospital staff
and the patients we serve, I would like to thank Mr. Southwell for his continued generosity to our organization."
"I know the hospital receives government funding for the majority of its operating expenses however the government rarely provides money for new equipment, "continued Mr. Southwell. " I choose to continuously
support the hospital because I want to make sure the hospital staff has the necessary tools to provide the best care possible to the community."
