Our Story
John acquired an interest in real estate early in life. It was not by accident or chance, but through his father. In 1970's John used to ride around with his father, who had become a realtor in 1974.
John fondly remembers those precious times on the real estate road with his Dad, in his Dad's big Oldsmobile. In those days things were much simpler. If someone liked a home, the Offer was 2 pages long &
often written out on the hood of a car or on someone's kitchen table. John saw his father become a national award winning salesperson with the franchise he worked for. In those days the hallmark of his
father's success was dedication to ones client, hard work & honesty. John's mother got into the business in 1978.
John's father asked him in 1988 to join him in real estate. Upon finishing high school, John took the real estate licensing courses & joined his father for what was to become the first real estate team in
Carleton Place. The family name Southwell was synonymous with real estate in Carleton Place & John wanted to carry the torch forward with pride as a 2nd generation realtor. John soon built a
clientele of his own & his parents began retirement. John soon became a real estate force of his own to be reckoned with. At a mere 21 years of age he started winning coveted sales wards from the franchise
he worked for.
A few years later in 1992 he opened his own brokerage. For the next 11 years John continued to take his career to newer heights. Always remembering what his father had instilled in his mind about what it took
to be successful realtor. John had learned these traits early on in life.
In 2003, on a real estate deal, something happened to John that would change his life forever. He met someone special. This individual became his future wife later that very same year. Giovanna was a hard
working young lady of Italian Canadian heritage, who had worked in a real estate office since she was 20. Giovanna had become a licensed realtor in 2001 & soon started winning coveted sales awards with the
franchise she worked for.
In 2004 John & Giovanna decided to work together as a team & once again carry the torch forward. In 2006, 2007, 2008 & yet again in 2009 John has taken home coveted sales awards from Coldwell Banker.
Real estate is a lot different now from those early days, but John still remembers those guiding principles that were instilled upon him early in life by his Dad. John & Giovanna reside in Carleton
Place & have 2 beautiful daughters. They are very active in the community in both a professional & personal capacity.
